ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN DIPLOMATIC NEGOTIATIONS AND MEDIATION
Abstract
The article explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in diplomatic negotiations and mediation, emphasising its practical application and analysing its potential advantages and risks. The research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the conse- quences of using AI tools in modern diplomacy and to assess their potential impact on resolving international conflicts, managing crisis situations, and shaping government policy in a digitised, technologically mediated international space. It is established that, amid increasing global instability and the complexity of international conflicts, artificial intelligence is an important factor in transforming diplomatic negotiations and media- tion processes. The integration of AI technologies into diplomatic practice reflects broad- er digitalisation trends in international relations and modernises tools for conflict anal- ysis, decision support, risk assessment, scenario modelling, and communication among negotiation participants at both national and international levels. By processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data, AI systems help diplomats and mediators identify behavioural patterns, predict negotiation outcomes, model alternative scenarios, and foster consensus in bilateral and multilateral settings. AI can also optimise resource allocation, monitor the implementation of agreements, and track changes in stakehold- er positions over time. However, the use of AI in sensitive diplomatic processes raises a number of ethical, legal, and political risks, including transparency, accountability, trust, data security, fairness, and the preservation of the human role in decision-making.
